I reviewed their latest release, the Nik Collection 7, a few weeks ago. It’s a great set of plug-ins that can help you manage colour, add sharpening, convert to monochrome, and much more. It’s very much part of my workflow for my more creative work.
I also love DxO PureRAW4. This plug-in improves your RAW files by removing chromatic aberration, dealing with lens optical corrections and vignetting, and, most importantly, removing noise from images. It’s so good that I know when I am shooting at high ISO values, say around 10,000 or 12,800, I can run it through PureRaw 4, and the images will look unbelievably clean.
Since launching its first product, DxO Optics Pro, in 2004, the company has continued to innovate. In 2006, a film emulator, DxO Film Pack, was launched that recreated classic film stock and could be applied to digital images. DxO Viewpoint, which fixes geometry and perspective, came out in 2012, and then, in 2015, a smartphone app, DxOOne, turned the handheld device into a powerful pocket camera.
In 2017, DxO bought the Nik Collection from Google, which had announced that it would no longer support the product. This left thousands of wedding photographers at risk as they had built Silver Efex into their workflow. The subsequent transformation of the Nik tools has totally rebuilt and, most importantly, improved them to help photographers who care about their output.
The introduction of AI into the underlying processing of images has led to the technology in DxO Pure Raw 4, making it an invaluable step in the workflow for the passionate photographer.
