DxO PureRAW 3

DxO’s PureRAW photo enhancing software receives an update to PureRAW 3 which provides more control of how RAW files are processed

I have been using DxO PureRAW 2 regularly since its launch twelve months ago. It’s the first part of my workflow if I’ve been shooting at high ISO for a client. It does a great job of removing noise, as well as eking out every last drop of data from the file to make it easier and faster to edit after that. The latest iteration of the product, PureRAW 3, has just been launched to give even more control over RAW file processing.

What’s changed?

The first change that will be visible to a small group of photographers is that PureRAW 3 now processes files from cameras with the X-Trans sensor. Anyone who uses the Fujifilm X-Series of cameras will now be able to add RAW enhancement to their workflow.

For the rest of us who have been using the software already, we’ve been given more control over the enhancements that can be made to RAW files. In DxO PhotoLab 6, we saw the introduction of DeepPRIME XD, which processes the file to bring out even more eXtreme Details in the file. This technology has now been added to PureRAW 3.

Version 2 of the software allowed corrections to be made to global lens sharpening and lens distortion. PureRAW 3 has added four levels of sharpening as well as vignetting and chromatic aberration. In addition, as well as selecting DNG and JPEG formats for the output file, we can now also use the TIFF format.

DxO PureRAW 3 also introduces a number of improvements when it comes to workflow. Users can create multiple queues when batch processing large numbers of files, with the
option to edit, re-order, and prioritize both images and queue lists while processing is underway.

When will it be available?

DxO PureRAW 3 is available for download from 15 March 2023. If you are an existing PureRAW 2 customer, the upgrade will cost £69 or $/€79. For new customers a licence will cost £115 or $/€129. I can highly recommend the PureRAW products, particularly if you are shooting at higher ISO’s. While I have had access to PureRAW 3 for the last couple of weeks, I will be upgrading to this new version to enhance my workflow in the next few days.
