Viewpoint 5
Check out this new version of Viewpoint 5 from DxO that will help you transform problem perspectives in your pictures.
Hello, I’ve got a really quick video today to let you know about the launch of an updated product from the guys at DxO: Viewpoint 5. It’s particularly good for editing architectural images, but as you’ll see, this neat piece of software also has some creative uses.
DxO Viewpoint is a tool that allows photographers to fix problem perspectives, overcome imperfect geometry and fix vital image details. As a Lightroom user, I have generally used the Transform section of the Develop module to do this kind of task. However, I can see much of this work moved into Viewpoint 5 with this latest release.
The key change in this latest release is the introduction of ReShape Fusion. By changing how edits are visualised on screen, the editing process for making fairly complex changes has become much more manageable.
The ReShape tool was first introduced in Version 4 of Viewpoint, but it has now been enhanced to allow photographers to move, rotate and scale elements of an image. However, if you’ve played with the tools in Lightroom or Photoshop, you’ll know that this can also affect the area around where you are making the changes. A new propagation slider allows you to gradually migrate the effect of the localised change so it merges naturally into the rest of the photograph. An addition of the Sticky Borders check box ensures that any edits applied won’t result in blank pixels on the edge as a result of warping an image.
I’ve included an extract of a demonstration by DxO Ambassador Julia Anna Gosporadou to show how the new tools can enhance your workflow.
I am sure that you’ll agree that the new ReShape Fusion tool adds a lot more control to reshaping, rotating, and moving elements of your image without causing unnecessary issues to the rest of the photograph. I’ll certainly include Viewpoint 5 in my workflow over the coming weeks and months.
One issue that I know DxO is going to be working on is for colour-blind photographers. As you can see, the colours that highlight the areas being amended use red and green highlights. I have a pal who suffers from colour blindness, and this will make it difficult for him to use this software. DxO has already recognised this, and they will be looking at helping this group of people in the future.
The updated version of DxO Viewpoint 5 is available today, 15 October 2024, from the DxO website. I have added an affiliate link by scanning this QR code or using the URL underneath (https://shop.dxo.com/). A new licence for Viewpoint 5 will cost £99 or 109 euros or US dollars. If you upgrade from versions 3 or 4 of Viewpoint, you’ll only pay £59 or 69 euros or dollars.
